There isn't enough crime or vandalism in Qualicum Beach to warrant security cameras, council decided Monday.
Coun. Scott Tanner wanted to ask staff to investigate installing cameras around the town hall after RCMP Staff Sgt. Brian Hunter said they're useful to police.
However, Coun. Mary Brouilette said Monday that rates of crime and vandalism
in the town are low and cameras would be "a waste of dollars."
Chief Administrative Officer Mark Brown said the town has cameras in some locations on an "as-needed basis."
Coun. Bill Luchtmeijer, a former police officer, agreed cameras would be "a waste of time and money." The town's "targeted approach is the correct approach," he said.
