There's a chill in the air and knitters are needed to piece together 178 squares that have been donated to make throws for the women and children at Haven House.
Jennie O'Connor, of Let's Knit in Qualicum Beach, has collected the squares and now it's time to piece them together.
She's inviting knitters to drop in to her shop at #2-211 Second Ave.W. and spend a few minutes creating warmth and comfort for those who have suffered abuse.
"It's really a part of who knitters are - they give," says O'Connor, who has been knitting since the Sixties. "It's women helping women."
Maeva Lowen, a Qualicum Beach knitter, says knitters will find the task is actually a pleasure.
"People get to talking and knitting and you don't really notice what you're doing," she says.
There's no need to call ahead, "just come in," O'Connor says. "We hope the community will be able to help us get this project completed."
Once the throws are completed, she says, she'll start encouraging knitters to make hats, scarves and mitts for Haven House.
