The Sea Soil Classic played to large and enthusiastic crowds at the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club over the weekend.
Play began Friday and 17 teams were whittled down by Sunday afternoon to four, vying for their names on the trophy and a part of the large cash prize pot.
In the A Division, the Parksville team of Stu MacNaughton, Jim Muir and Rick Dolley squared off against the visiting team of German Santana, Craig Wilson and Mel Eccles from Vancouver. The Santana team prevailed with a final score of 16-7 in a tough, hard-fought match. In the B Division, it was an all-Parksville final with two very strong teams fighting for lawn bowling gold. The team of Mick Banks, Geoff Holland and Jack Lawrence were up against that of Bill Mills, Peter Zboyovsky and Gil Simpson. This match ended in a tight 13-9 win for the Mills team. Sea Soil was once again the major sponsor of this tournament, as it has been for the past six years, and the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club is grateful for their continued support.
During the event, funds were raised for the Oceanside Hospice Society.
